Edith Ewing Bouvier was born October 5, 1895 in Nutley, New Jersey. Her father, “Major” John Vernou Bouvier, Jr., was a skillful New York attorney and later became a prominent judge. Like many people, I’m fascinated by Grey Gardens (1975). I’ve seen the parody on Documentary Now!, Jinkx Monsoon’s impression of Little Edie Beale, and clips of the film on YouTube, and, for whatever reason– I was left with more questions than answers. I wondered how the rest of the family felt about the movie– which is why I decided to write two mini-biographies of Little Edie’s younger brothers– Phelan Jr. and Bouvier Beale.
