Since 2003 the twin brothers have worked with artists like Drake, Childish Gambino, Pharrell, Lupe Fiasco, Earl Sweatshirt, J. Cole, Vince Staples and Jaden Smith, to name just a few.
Chicago born, Nigeria raised, Taiwo and Kehinde Hassan came up in the early 2000s when The Neptunes and Timbaland ruled the charts. It was an era when hip hop was “very experimental but it was hardcore.”
“Back then you could just take a hard sample with some hard drums and you knew you were going to sell it and you knew it was gonna come out on some album” Taiwo tells triple j. He describes it as a time when the hits kept coming, and when working with certain artists was basically a sure thing to go platinum and gain notoriety.
“It was just, like, the glory days of hardcore music and raunchy rap.”
As producers who were active in the scene and behind the scenes, the brothers say there was a palpable feeling of music history being made. “We were the young kids trying to learn how to become super producers,” remembers Taiwo. “It was just one of those times where [we were] like, ‘wow, these people are gonna be legendary’ and now they’re all legendary, right? So, it was amazing to be part of that back then.”
