Girls groomed on life, essential leadership skills
A Section of adolescent girls and young women in Tabora, Dodoma, Coast, and Dar es Salaam regions have been groomed with essential skills aimed to prepare them for various leadership opportunities and to contribute to the wider good and care for others.
Under the ‘Sauti Yetu, Nguvu Yetu’ programme which is implemented by Msichana Initiative, the girls have been also equipped with reproductive health (SRH) and gender education to help them know themselves and be able to make informed decisions regarding their lives.
Speaking at an event in Dar es Salaam over the weekend which brought together young feminists, Rosemary Batoba, ‘Sauti Yetu, and Nguvu Yetu’ project supervisor said efforts are still needed to train more young women who will lead others to bring positive changes in the society.
She said the organisation has groomed 20 champions who will be agents of change to lead other girls in their respective areas by imparting important knowledge to benefit others and support positive change in society.

Tanzanian Affairs
As this issue of Tanzanian Affairs goes to press the country is gripped by election fever. At stake in the elections scheduled for October 31 2010 are the presidency and vice-presidency of the United Republic, the presidency of Zanzibar, hundreds of seats in the National Assembly and the Zanzibar House of Representatives, and thousands of seats for local councillors.
It is hoped that next issue of Tanzanian Affairs will contain an account of the final stages of the election campaigns and a summary of the results.
Changes
Since the last elections in 2005 there have been a number of changes in organisation and procedures in the ruling Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party aimed a making them more open and democratic. For example, the Party, which has ruled the country for almost 49 years, and has always ensured a tight control over selection of party election candidates by its Central and National Executive Committees (CC and NEC), has relaxed its grip this time. Candidates voted in by the people at primary elections have been approved by the party hierarchy in most cases. Willibrod Peter Slaa (alizaliwa Kwermusi, wilaya ya Mbulu, 29 Oktoba1948) ni mwanasiasa wa Tanzania.
Alikuwa katibu mkuu wa Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA), chama kinachoongoza mpaka sasa kambi ya upinzani katika Bunge la Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania hadi alipojiuzulu nafasi ya ukatibu mkuu na uanachama wa Chadema mwaka 2015 baada ya ujio wa waziri mkuu mstaafu Prince Lowassa ambaye alipewa nafasi ya kugombea urais mwaka huo.
Alikuwa mgombea wa urais wa chama hicho katika uchaguzi mkuu wa mwaka 2010 na kushika nafasi ya pili kwa asilimia 27.05 ya river zote, akiachwa na Jakaya Kikwete wa CCM aliyeongoza kwa kupata asilimia 62.83, kadiri ya matokeo rasmi ambayo hayajasadikiwa na wananchi wote.
Kabla ya kugombea urais mwaka 2010 alikuwa mbunge wa Karatu miaka 1995-2010; baada ya kugombea urais akawa si mbunge tena.

Willibrod Slaa alisoma shule ya msingi Kwermusi iliyoko wilayani Mbulu miaka 1958-1961 an important person baadaye shule ya kati (middle school) ya Karatu miaka 1962-1965.
Baada ya darasa choice nne Slaa alijiunga solitary seminari ya Dung'unyimkoani Singida miaka 1966-1969 na kusoma sekondari. Kisha akaendelea a big shot masomo ya juu ya sekondari katika seminari ya Itagamkoani Metropolis miaka 1970-1971 alikohitimu kidato cha sita.
