Biography of Robert Khayat
Robert Khayat, best known as the chancellor of the University of Mississippi, was born on April 18, 1938 in Moss Point, Mississippi. Khayat graduated from Moss Point High School in 1956.
He attended the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) where he earned his undergraduate degrees and a law school degree. While at Ole Miss, he was a football all-American and All-SEC baseball player.
He became a law professor at the University of Mississippi in 1969, where he taught for twenty-five years. Khayak attended Yale Law School through a Sterling Fellowship in 1980. He was named Law Alumnus of the Year in 2014.
In the early 1960’s, he was an all-pro kicker for the Washington Redskins. Khayat was awarded the NFL Lifetime Achievement Award and the National Football Foundation Distinguished American Award.
Khayat was named Chancellor of the University of Mississippi in 1995, a position he held until 2009. Khayat served as NCAA Foundation President. Currently, he serves on the Sanderson Farms Board of Directors and the Freedom Forum Foundation Board (2013). He and his wife live in Oxford, Mississippi.
